The pillars of the Open Classroom philosophy include an emphasis on social-emotional learning and community, active engagement and choice for students, balance between academics, exploration, and play, and parent partnership. Classes are multi-grade and students often interact with other classes and learn together as a whole program. Academic curriculum is based on best practices and current state standards. Parent volunteers and classroom assistants enhance student learning in and out of the classrooms daily. Aides offer support in classrooms and specialists provide weekly art, music, garden, movement, and library classes.
