From Lagunitas School District: Please be extra attentive to what your children are viewing on social media- particularly TicTok. A highly disturbing violent video is circulating among kids (especially middle and high schoolers) and it is important for adults to be aware of this. Please check your e-mail for details and links for support. A I can’t stress strongly enough how harmful the video in question is and how important it is for all of us to do our best to prevent our children from seeing it. I am sorry to have to share this unfortunate warning.

COVID-19 School Closure Update June 9, 2020 The County School Superintendents Group and other school leaders met today with Dr. Lisa Santora and Dr. Matt Willis of the Marin County Deputy Public Health Officer and discussed some important new developments in the state and county’s response to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic. • We expect to have clear information on student cohort recommendations and school openings around June 15, slightly earlier than originally predicted. • Local school district leaders continue to advocate for the largest possible safe student cohorts when schools re-open but are preparing for a variety of restrictions. We hope to see sizes at or very close to what would be normal if school were in session. • We expect that significant sanitization/ safety measures will be mandated. We are taking steps to upgrade facilities and purchase necessary supplies. • We learned today that specialist teachers will be allowed to interact with student cohorts… that a cohort won’t necessarily be limited to one adult per group. • The district is convening a re-opening task force to ensure community participation and buy-in when the plan when it is finalized. • We are developing a parent survey that will be given within the next few days to assess attitudes and plans families have related to re-opening.

Dear School Community: I hope you are handling the on-going shelter-in-place with resolve and good humor. I am sure many of you are seeing news reports and/or have read the letter issued by State Superintendent Thurmond's office which was echoed by Governor Newsome today. Their message is that it appears our students will not be able to return to the classroom this year. It may be wise to keep that possibility in mind, however, there has been no definitive direction from the Governor's office or from Public Heath indicating an extension of our current school closures at this time. We will continue distance learning through at least May 1 and longer if necessary. We continue to work with Marin Health Department around issues of public safety and school closure. Should we receive definitive information on an extension of our current school closure we will communicate it immediately. Thank you for your ongoing patience as we work through the shelter-in-place and all that comes with it. John Carroll, Superintendent

Dear Bolinas-Stinson and Lagunitas School Communities: In an effort to support the state-wide shelter-in-place order and to do our part in slowing the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are asking school staff not to come to school until further notice. Employees who are essential to providing food service and sanitation will be allowed on campus for short periods of time to complete essential tasks. Families receiving lunch at school should use the regular pick-up location and not remain longer than necessary. Thanks again to all members of our community for working together in this effort to protect public health and the safety of others. We will provide another update after the county-wide conference call tomorrow morning. Please stay safe and remember to be kind and patient with each other.

Lagunitas School District
FROM LAGUNITAS SCHOOL DISTRICT: Dear Lagunitas and Bolinas-Stinson School Families: This afternoon Health Officers in the Greater Bay Area are issuing a Shelter-In-Place directive. The School District will provide more details as they become known. As of now, the Department of Public Health advises that you should stay at home and leave only to access essential services. Essential services that will remain available are as follows: • Healthcare • Schools (Though classes are cancelled some services may continue.) • grocery stores • other places providing fresh food • pharmacies • gas stations • banks • garbage service, • plumbers • electricians • laundry mats • restaurants, but deliver or carry out only The most important element of this directive is to limit contact with others so as to decrease the rate of spread of the COVID-19 virus. Social distancing including keeping at least 6 feet away from others is strongly advised as is continued frequent hand washing. If you become ill, call your healthcare provider for specific guidance. While this guidance is important for everyone, compliance is critical for people age 65 and up and for those who care for them directly. Solitary outdoor activities are acceptable, for example dog walking, hikes alone or with small groups when individuals stay 6 feet apart. Remember, this is a nation-wide effort and each of us can help by following the directions of our Public Health leaders. Please watch this space for further update including information pertaining to school employees. Thank You. John Carroll, Superintendent

MESSAGE TO EMPLOYEES: Dear Employees of the Bolinas-Stinson and Lagunitas School Districts: On behalf of our administration teams, I want to thank you all for the flexibility and commitment you have shown so far as our schools deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. It is heartening to see people being community-minded when we face new challenges. At a time like this, teamwork and taking care of each other is our best path to getting back to normal. I am aware that there is some anxiety as we head into this week. My hope is that this message will reassure all of you that while we are at an unprecedented place in our history, we will get through this together and will learn and grow from the experience. • Do not worry about your pay and benefits. Our plan is process payroll as though school is running normally. We will not deduct any sick leave during this time. • On Monday, March 16: Our campuses will be closed. Please do not come to work unless you have authorization from me or your site principal. • From Tuesday March 17- Friday March 27: Classes have been cancelled but school is not technically “closed”. That means that employees who would like to work from campus (without students present) may come to school. Employees may also elect to work from home. DO NOT COME TO SCHOOL IF YOU FEEL ILL. • If you choose to come to school at any time in the next two weeks: E-mail, text or sign in in person with the District Secretary: Bolinas-Stinson: johannas@bolinas-stinson.org Lagunitas: lwickersham@lagunitas.org Be sure to give Johanna or Liz the following information: 1. The date you will be on campus. 2. Where you went while you were there. 3. What kind or work you did (a brief description… lesson planning, feeding class pets etc.) 4. What time you left. We have taken the step of cancelling classes not because we suspect the presence of COVID -19 at school. The class cancellation is in response to a recommendation from Public Health to limit concentrations of student to support regional efforts to slow the spread of the virus. Our sanitation efforts are being implemented out of an abundance of caution. If you have individual questions or concerns, please e-mail me at jcarroll@bolinas-stinson.org or call me directly on my personal number: (415) 720-0051. Thanks again for all you do for our students. FROM LAGUNITAS SCHOOL DISTRICT: The Office of Emergency Services has notified us that Lagunitas School and the surrounding region is likely to experience a Public Safety Power Shutdown (PSPS) due to the risk of wild fires that could be caused by high winds. Our most recent information indicates that a high number of customers all over Marin and the Bay Area will have their power shut off beginning some time Saturday October 26 and lasting for an indefinite period of time- probably through Monday October 27 and possibly longer. It is very likely that school will be closed for safety reasons on Monday and perhaps into next week. If power is off Monday morning, school will be closed. We will send out notifications via the website, app, text message and e-mail by 5:30AM on Monday morning with a final decision about the school closure and will update the website regularly as we learn more. Please prepare for this event by ensuring that you have sufficient food and water for an extended period of time, keeping a battery-operated radio available and charging your mobile phone in advance. KCBS 740 AM Radio will also provide updates if cell service is impacted. From Lagunitas School District The Lagunitas School District is open today. There are several power outages in the San Geronimo Vally but power is on at school and classes will take place as usual. The National Weather Service advises that rain will continue but that the strongest part of the system has moved to our south.

The Richmond San Rafael Bridge is closed. We have just received notice from the Marin County Office of Education as follows: Large chunks of concrete were reported falling form the upper deck onto the lower deck. · Traffic was stopped in both directions. Cars on the bridge were escorted off by the CHP. · While some news reports indicate that the bridge may be reopening this afternoon, there is not yet confirmation from CHP or Caltrans. This situation is expected to have a major impact on traffic throughout Marin County for the rest of the day.

Thank you for supporting Lagunitas School's Montessori Students Holiday Cards sale! The 1st through 5th grade Montessori students created beautiful cards in the art room to sell during the holidays to raise money for Paradise Camp Fire relief efforts. The Lagunitas Deli, Woodacre Market and The Pump generously shared their counter space during the month of December to sell these beautiful hand made cards. Thanks to our wonderful Art Teacher Kristy Arroyo and the children’s hard work, the support of the local businesses and last but not least, the San Geronimo Valley community, we were able to raise $125.00! All funds were donated to United Way of Northern California, specifically “Camp Fire”. Thank you for giving, and Happy New Year to All!

Closing school is never easy but today I am very glad we did. I stood at the crosswalk this morning to intercept anyone who didn’t get the message yesterday which gave me a few minutes to stand in the smoky air and fully grasp how bad the conditions are. At 8:00 the Air Quality Index was at a very unhealthy 240. I am glad that I didn’t see any children biking or walking to school. Closing the school was the right thing to do but that decision never feels good. People’s routines are disrupted, plans have to change, lessons and events have to be scrapped or re-scheduled; it’s always a hassle. But In the quiet, smoke-filled air behind the limited protection of my respirator mask, I thought of the schools in Butte County, some of which no longer exist, of a whole town that has been burned and of people who are living with a tragedy that makes our situation seem insignificant. There are things we can do to help but Paradise and the surrounding area will never be the same. I’d like to encourage anyone who is able to send support (money is most efficient) to agencies who are providing relief. Butte County Schools has set up an easy link that we can use to contribute: https://www.nvcf.org/fund/butte-county-schools-fire-relief-fund/ . There are many other agencies providing relief as well. Since many of us have an unexpected day off, I’d like to encourage you to use some time to check your own preparedness. Fire season is much longer that it used to be and having a Go Bag and an escape plan is essential year-round. https://www.ready.gov/build-a-kit As Thanksgiving comes up next week, it’s clear that we have a lot to be thankful for- we’ve had some near misses with fire and the air is terrible but our community is strong and intact. Please stay safe… and indoors as much as possible. We look forward to seeing all our students back at school after the break and hopefully under clear skies fresh air. Happy Thanksgiving, John Carroll, Superintendent

The Lagunitas School District will be closed tomorrow, Friday, November 16. Due to air quality in the “Very Unhealthy” range. Marin County school superintendents discussed the issue late this afternoon and are in agreement that closing schools is in the best interest of our students' health. We recognize that school closures can create significant inconvenience for some families and we appreciate your cooperation and understanding at this time. Thank you, John Carroll, Superintendent

Many of you have inquired about how to help the victims of the Butte County wild fire. The Butte County Office of Education created the Schools Fire Relief Fund to provide a one-stop location where individuals or organizations can provide support directly to schools in Butte County. Donors can either specify a specific district or use (textbooks, clothes, etc.) for the funds or make an open donation. Donations can be made online at https://www.nvcf.org/fund/butte-county-schools-fire-relief-fund/

Dear Parents, This week we sent home a pledge envelope with each student. These envelopes also contain your scrip cards. We receive money every month from scrip, if you remember to use these cards each time you shop at United or the Good Earth it is free money for our school.Every envelope needs to be returned with a signature that you have received it. Please consider pledging if you haven't already. Any amount helps, and every dollar goes right back to our students. Currently, pledge pays for Spanish, electives, and field trips.
